Edwards and O'Neil are two of the early names in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on Sunday following the squad's ten-game without a victory start to the top-flight campaign.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous associations to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the former Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of games for the club during his time as a player - is considered a leading contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the club board as they begin the process of hiring a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is additionally emerging as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a shock appointment given he was released by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham player is out of work meaning the club would not be required to pay any compensation.
