Jennifer Lawrence States Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Tearing the Country Apart

The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer suitable to comment publicly countering the Trump administration, concerned it could intensify polarizing arguments and deepen rifts across the United States.

‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains the Actress

In a recent interview, she commented, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was running around without clear direction. But it’s become clear, election after election, public figures fail to influence whatsoever on who people vote for.”

The actor went on, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on an issue that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the country apart.”

Changing Allegiances

Jennifer Lawrence has spoken candidly about backing conservative and liberal contenders throughout her life. Raised by Republican parents in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in 2008 prior to switching to the Democratic party and revealing she understood during President Obama’s term that backing conservatives was opposing her own rights as a woman.

Past Statements

In 2015, she commented that a Trump victory would be “a disaster” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “as I believe she’s an excellent choice and I trust that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard women’s health rights.”

Celebrity Views

Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the limited influence stars have over the electoral decisions was emphasized by Trump’s victory.

“Another four years seems distinct,” commented Lawrence regarding his administration. “Because he made his plans clear. We understood his record for four years. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”

Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting the drama, the filmmaker’s drama in which she plays a young mom who faces challenges with her psychological well-being in rural Montana. At a media event for the project in Venice, the star spoke about Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is nothing short of a genocide and it’s horrible.”

Wider Issues

The actress elaborated by stating that she was disheartened by “the lack of civility in the discussions of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be accepted to the children today. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”

She aimed to shift frustration about the situation to decision-makers rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on who is responsible,” she advised, in what many took to be a reference to the declaration signed by thousands of arts community members to boycott Israeli film institutions.

Personal Connections

Lawrence, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is attracting awards attention for her work in the new film. Even though Lynne Ramsay has rejected the story being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and mental illness, Lawrence said that she did relate to parts of her role’s experience after the birth of her new baby, shortly after filming concluded.

“I felt anxiety for my son,” she commented, “imagining every negative outcome, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a drug called that medicine and I used it for 14 days and it was effective.”

Professional Experiences

The actor also spoke regarding the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the movie while she was expecting and couldn’t work out.

“It feels nice,” she commented, about having to set aside self-consciousness. “I mean, I do have moments where I’m like, What separates me between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
