"Do you know when you'll be chatting with Haim?" an inquiry pops up. "I wanted to ask if I can be their fourth member."

However, there remains a single issue: The sender also longs to be Haim's newest recruit. And we're far from alone. Multiple high-profile admirers have openly begged for the honor.

One thing is obvious something is happening. The siblings Este, Danielle and Alana launched their path doing sets at small eateries with their parents. Presently, they stand as multi-time Grammy nominees.

Like all the greatest bands, they're a inseparable unit. Their videos repeatedly show them marching in sync down the avenues of Los Angeles. During performances, they jam with such pure joy you find yourself thinking, "I wish to be a piece of that, too."

"How often on tour that young girls came up to us and said, 'Watching you live, I bought a drum kit'," says Alana, the most junior of the trio. "That's the biggest honor. It is a prize in itself. We've done our job if we can inspire young girls to make music."

"And thus everyone is invited to be the honorary Haim sister."

Grammy Nod

The band are connecting from their homes, where they're taking a pause after an extensive tour in support of their fourth album, I Quit.

They're right now reeling from the news it's been in the running for Best Rock Album at the Grammys – with Haim the pioneering female band ever in the running for the trophy.

"I watch the announcements every year, so it sort of feels like an out-of-body experience when your name is announced," explains Alana. "I needed to phone my sisters to say, 'Did I hear this correctly or am I dreaming'?"

The importance of the accolade is deeply felt by the sisters.

"We truly set out to make a rock record this time, so it's a huge step," says Alana. "Yet we're just grateful for the pioneers that inspired us."

Heartbreak and Laughter

The record came out of a period of personal change. All three sisters were single, and the music explores that unique in-between place where you're happy to be free, but not yet ready to let go.

The words track endings and partings. The sisters desire love, but not the relationships they've experienced. You can hear them figuring out in the moment who they aspire to be.

"That's a perfect way of putting it, yes," responds Danielle. "I Quit is essentially a mantra. You have to make an effort in ignoring the outside opinions and saying, 'I couldn't care less what people think'."

Refinement of Music

That developed resilience called for a new sound – more raw and direct than anything the band had done before.

For Danielle, who helped produce the album, that was founded on the drums.

"Drums are such a detailed thing, and I am so passionate about it," she says.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the title of our memoir," quips Alana. "I always say, our albums don't start until we find the ideal drum sound."

Anecdotes and Shared Laughter

The band's candor shaped the album's promotional campaign, where the sisters disclosed some of their personal tales.

One man broke up with Este over a health concern. Alana recalled a story of travelling to celebrate New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a casual gesture at midnight.

"Experiencing these breakups, you just feel like there's no light," notes Alana. "Therefore to be able to laugh at those stories and have them tell you even crazier stories, it's therapeutic."

A Confident Path

You can clearly sense a shift in the band. These days, Haim are more assured of their position in the music world.

They're festival headliners, with chart-topping albums and an worldwide following.

But the sister act will consistently be their top priority.

"My sisters and I have been performing since I was four," says Alana. "It's like nothing else that we were meant to do. And I'm really thankful we've gotten here and we're still going strong."
